Socio-economic impacts of peste des petits ruminants
Recognizing the importance of sheep and goats to the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) jointly launched the peste des petits ruminants (PPR) a Global Strategy for the Control and Eradication of peste des petits ruminants (PPR) to eradicate the disease globally by 2030.
In line with these efforts, the Global PPR Secretariat will convene a meeting of experts at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Nairobi campus on 12-13 May 2025, focusing on the socio-economics of PPR.
The objective of the meeting is to identify key priority areas for socio-economic and gender research that can strengthen policy support and advocacy for the eradication of PPR, while also contributing to the transformation of the livestock sector.
The meeting is jointly organized by ILRI, SEBI-Livestock and FAO.
